OBITUARY
DANIEL JOHN SIFFORD, 81, of Gracemont, was born on October 18, 1930, in Fisk, Missouri to Henry Edward and Loreda Eola (Skaggs) Sifford the oldest son of 12 children. He passed from this Life on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, in Clinton, Oklahoma.
He graduated from Fisk High School. He joined the Army on April 18, 1950. He was sent to Korea and was captured and was a POW for 842 days. He left the Army on April 22, 1956 with a Honorable Discharge with the rank of Sgt. Daniel joined the Air Force on May 21, 1956 and served until his retirement on June 30, 1971 with a Honorable Discharge with the rank of TSgt. He was known affectionately as "Big Mo" by his fellow soldiers.
Daniel met Leatha Wilson and they were married on January 12, 1962. To this union 4 children were born. After his retirement they moved and settled at Binger Y. He then began employment with Caddo County Road Department and then was a Water Tech with Union City. During this time he also farmed and raised horses. He loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed horseback riding and was a member of the Anadarko Riding Club with his son James. He grew a garden every year and could grow anything he planted. He helped form and was later Commander of the Southwest Chapter of American Ex-POWs. He enjoyed sitting and visiting with his family and friends. He appreciated good joke telling and often shared stories of his boyhood in MO. He told of spending countless hours hunting and fishing with his brothers Hank and Sam. Daniel also loved to camp and travel with his family. He was a good honest man.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Letha, his brother, David Sifford, his sister-in-law, Gertrude Wilson and his brother-in-law, Elmer Wilson.
Survivors include his children, Beryl Stands and her husband, Adrian of Gracemont, James Sissord and his wife, Deanna of Anadarko, Teddi James and her husband, Bill of Lawrence, Kansas and John Sifford of Gracemont; his grandchildren, Carrie, Steven, Ira, Tahnee, Loreda, Nathan, Teague, Hunter, Draven, Letha and Jordan; his great grandchildren, Jaiden and Steven; his brothers, Hank Sifford of Montana, Samuel Sifford of Kansas; his sisters, Judy Wright of Missouri, Juanita Demarest of Florida, Em of all over the U.S., Carol Savio , Phyllis Hayslip, Jane Hayes, and Reba Berry, all of Missouri; his nieces, Sharon Mitchell of Florida, Billie Wagley of Texas, Sharla Wilson-Gabales of Oklahoma City and Lita Wilson of Anadarko; his nephews, Samuel Wilson of Texas and Wayne Wilson of Anadarko, Many more relatives that we have yet to meet and close friends, including Neil Wooster and all the coffee crew at Indian City Lanes.
The funeral will be at 2 P.M., Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the Square Top Baptist Church with the burial following at the Memory Lane Cemetery under the direction of the Steverson Funeral Home.
