Curtis Glenn Gomez, 53 of Anadarko was born October 13, 1961, to Pete Mendoza and Evaline (Thompson) Gomez in Idabel, Oklahoma. He passed from this life on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, in Anadarko, Oklahoma
Curtis was raised in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, on the Navajo Reservation in TeecNosPos, Arizona, and in Muskogee where he graduated with the Class of 1980. He attended school at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Perkins School of Theology (a campus of Southern Methodist University) where he graduated in 1986. Curtis was ordained as a deacon of the United Methodist Church in 1986 and as an elder in 1991. He served as pastor of the Wichita Indian United Methodist Church in Wichita, Kansas, pastor of New Hope United Methodist Church in Dewey, Oklahoma, director of the Christian Center in Anadarko and, more recently, as a dorm aid at Riverside Indian School.
Curtis was a musician with skills on guitar, keyboards, horns, banjo, accordion, especially bass guitar and any other instrument he had an interest in. He gave guitar lessons for a while, was fluent in the Choctaw language, loved restoring old trucks (and was currently working on a '72 pickup). Curtis was a leader. There is a building on the grounds of the New Hope Methodist Church named for him, Curtis Hall.
Curtis was a loving person who would give anyone anything he had if asked and was loved by many.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Survivors include his son, Jared Michael Gomez of Norman; daughter, Brittany Nicole Gomez of Tulsa; sister, Sharon Yeahquo and her husband, Pershing of Fort Cobb; brother, Wendell Gomez and his wife, Lynn of Oklahoma City; two nieces, Sarah Ann Gomez of Norman and Maria Todd and her husband, Richard; four great nephews, Caden Longstreet, Cody Longstreet II, Richard Lee Todd, Jr. and Vketeckv Todd; and great niece, Onnahinli Todd, all of Oklahoma City, other relatives and friends.
A prayer service will be held at 6 P.M., Friday, August 14, 2015, at the Steverson Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Grace Christian Fellowship. The burial will follow at 3 P.M. in the Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma, all under the direction of the Steverson Funeral Home.
