Clara C Littlelight

September 20, 1947 — January 5, 2019

Clara Chanate Littlelight was born September 20, 1947 and passed away on January 05, 2019. She was born in Lawton, OK as the daughter of Ernest Chanate Sr. and Kathleen Boyiddle Chanate. Clara's maternal grandparents were Laura Kaubin Boyiddle and Hicks Boyiddle, her paternal grandparents were Effie Satpauhoodle Tonemah and James Chanate. Clara was a proud descendant of Ahpeahtone and full blood member of the Kiowa Tribe.
Clara graduated from Cameron University and went on to work for the Kiowa Tribe and Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribe. She worked primarily in social services and she enjoyed helping people at work and outside of work as well. She supported young people and tried to help those who were down on their luck.
Culture and tradition was important to Clara. She was active in the Native American Church and hosted many meetings over the years. She participated in other groups, organizations and gatherings both locally and also across the Great Plains. She made numerous trips to visit her Crow Family where she was also a Sundancer. She made many friends in her travels and liked to share the stories of her experiences in her many travels.
Clara had many friends she adopted to become members of her extended family. Whenever she went to a different state, it seemed like she had an adopted brother and sister in every place. She cared deeply for all of her family and friends and wanted the best for them. They will all miss her deeply.
Clara was preceded in death by her late husband, Louis Littlelight of the Crow Tribe. Also her parents and her two younger brothers Daryl Lynn Chanate and Ernest Chanate Jr.
She is survived by her nieces Ginny Chanate Oldbear (husband Robert Oldbear) in North Spur, nephews Robert Chanate in Denver and Jason Chanate in Oklahoma City. Her grandkids are Sienna, Mary & Margaret in Elgin and a great grand daughter Karlee Chanate in Elgin. Clara had many cousins, aunts and uncles and adopted family members as well, who were just as important to her and loved as much as her immediate family.
