Clara Mae Clark

September 12, 1930 — May 4, 2016

Clara Mae Cotter Clark, 85, Anadarko, Oklahoma, longtime Carnegie resident, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Anadarko. She was born on September 12, 1930 to Charlie Logan Cotter and Mary Zilla "Sis" Miller Cotter near Colony, Oklahoma.

She and Jodie dated for a year and a half during which time he asked her one time
to marry him and said he would only ask her once. She told him she wasn't sure, and they later
decided to get married. Jodie and Clara Mae married on December 31, 1952
in Anadarko, Oklahoma. After their 60th anniversary, Clara Mae related this story,
laughed and said she might still not be sure! They lived briefly in Oklahoma City
when first married then moved back to the Carnegie area. Jodie started doing
farm work for the Floyd Clay family in 1958 and worked for three generations of the Clay
family. Clara Mae worked with him on the farm northwest of Carnegie where they lived
all those years and where they retired. She always had a large garden and preserved
the vegetables she raised by canning so they would have vegetables all year long. She
always loved to plant beautiful flowers and plants. Clara drove the tractor, worked with
the cattle and helped out anywhere she was needed on the farm. They were not
blessed with children of their own, but had many nieces and nephews that they love dearly.
These children, along with neighbors and friends' children, spent lots of time staying with them
and having a great time on the farm. Clara Mae was a Christian and was a member of the Faith
Assembly of God Church in Carnegie where both she and Jodie worked hard to help build up
the church.

Survivors include one sister Clota Anderson, Anadarko, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law, Colleen Irvin, Winfield, Kansas; Arlene Irvin, Southaven, Mississippi; and Kathy Edge Cotter; two brothers-in-law Ernest Clark and wife Pat of Texas; Marion Irvin of Hobart, Oklahoma; the Clay family; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
