Carolyn Jean (ne Files) Peters, age 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 27, 2023, at Commonwealth Memory Care, an assisted living facility located near her son and grandchildren in Southeastern Virginia.
Carolyn was born on December 26, 1943. She was raised on the family farm in Roosevelt, OK, by Vernon and Bernice Files, and was a loving older sister to brother Jim and sister Kimberly. After high school Carolyn married Jimmy Peters, and they spent time in Oklahoma, California, and even Germany before eventually putting down roots in the Bay Area. They had two sons together, Jody and Brian, before separating in 1977. In the mid-1980s Carolyn was introduced to Bill Walter, who became her lifelong companion. She worked for almost 20 years at Qantel, a computer hardware and software business based in Hayward, California, serving as the Director of Product Planning, then spent another 15+ years at Harland Financial Solutions, a Pleasanton-based banking-software company, where she worked as a Contracts Manager until her retirement in 2011. Shortly after retirement, Carolyn was diagnosed with dementia. In 2016 she moved in with her son and his family in Virginia Beach, VA, in order to spend as much time as possible with her grandchildren.
Carolyn was a steadfast worker and a dedicated mother, sister, and daughter. She enjoyed listening to music and loved dancing. She never tired of the simple pleasure of watching a movie on the couch with a cat curled up in her lap.

She is survived by her partner Bill Walter of Pleasanton, CA; son Jody and wife Stephanie Peters of Pleasanton, CA; son Brian and wife Jodi Peters, and grandchildren Adam, Leah, and Audrey, all of Virginia Beach, VA; nephew Paul and wife Sylvia Files of Claremore, OK; and niece Brandy and husband Michael Saville of Mountain Park, OK.
