Obituary for Carolyn Joyce (Willis) Merritt


Carolyn Joyce (Willis) Merritt was born on December 26, 1933 at Alfalfa, Oklahoma to Rodger and Connie (Reynolds) Willis, and died November 15th, 2012 at Carnegie Tri-County Municipal Hospital.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Merritt, former husbands Harry Kindblade and Norman Theesen, her parents, Rodger and Connie (Reynolds) Willis, her siblings Carol D. Willis and Linda Kay (Willis) Cook.

Carolyn attended all of her school years at Alfalfa school where she was involved in 4-H, Future Homemakers of America, the school band as a flute player, and Eastern Star, and she was voted high school queen in 1950. In addition, she grew up in the Alfalfa Methodist Church where she was active in youth activities. After high school she attended Draughon's Business College for secretarial training.

She married Harry Joe Kindblade of Carnegie, on January 13, 1957. To this union was born three children, Jo Lynn , Stanley Joe and Mary Luann. They spent 10 years in southern Idaho where they homesteaded 160 acres, growing potatoes, wheat and barley. Years later, after returning to Oklahoma, she married Kenneth Merritt of Carnegie. The couple enjoyed many years of travelling and participating in bowling leagues, including state and national tournaments. Carolyn also collected insulators, stamps and wrote poetry.

She is survived by her three children JoLynn Youngblood, Stanley Kindblade and Luann Kindblade; two granddaughters, Katlynn Ashton and Nikita Kindblade; one brother, Donald Willis and one sister, Norma (Willis) Red.
