Bobby "Bob" Dean Sanders, CLU passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018 in Hobart, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years. Services will be held at Ray and Martha's Funeral Home in Hobart, OK on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Sentinel Cemetery.
Bob was born on April 3, 1932 to Isaiah Volon Sanders and Maggie Lee Chism Sanders on the McBroom farm north of Sentinel, OK. He graduated President of his class at Port High School in 1950. Fulfilling a commitment to his country, Bob gave four years of service to the United States Air Force as a Mechanic (1952-56).
On February 20, 1955, Bob wed Shirley Jane Stephens in Hobart. To this union of 63 years was born two daughters: Dena Raylene and Karen Sue. Both daughters learned the value of hard work and professionalism from him. He was a good provider for the family and worked hard to see that the family's needs were met.
In 1958 Bob began his long career in the life insurance business with Home State Life. He retired in 1988 after 30 years for American General Life Insurance. At the time of his retirement he was District Manager and then became affiliated with Wichita National Life Insurance in Lawton. He continued selling insurance up until the month prior to his death. He believed that insurance was a gift you gave to your family. He enjoyed working with numbers and people. In 1970 Bob worked for and received his Chartered Life Underwriter designation, an accomplishment of which he was very proud. Very important to him was his integrity. He was a man of his word and kept that word. His volunteer work included acting as an ombudsman for Mustang, OK area nursing homes and as a leader with his Macular Degeneration Support Group.
Bob was a man of faith and as such, joined Port Baptist Church in 1946. He was also a charter member of Washington Street Baptist Church in Hobart from 1957-1968. During that time he enjoyed leading the music for the congregation and choir.
As the oldest brother, Bob had a special love for his siblings. The brothers would play dominoes and drink coffee until the wee hours of the morning and rarely could they be beaten by other players. He held his sisters in high regard and loved them dearly.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother, father, sisters Verna Lee Perky, Dorothy Loraine Sanders, and Trannie Mapp. He is survived by his wife Jane, of the home; daughters: Dena Riede and husband David, Austin, TX; Karen Bailey and husband COL (R) Jesse, Lawton, OK; grandsons Thomas Enger, New Jersey; and Jakob Bailey, Lawton, OK. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he so enjoyed.
