Billie Dean Tate was born on August 18, 1933 near Gotebo, Oklahoma to Leonard and Clara Tate. He moved at an early age to a farm south of Mountain View, Oklahoma.
His early education years were spent at Sedan School south of Mountain View. Upon graduation in 1951 he attended Cameron Jr. College in Lawton, Oklahoma. After graduating there he attended Oklahoma A & M at Stillwater Oklahoma where he graduated in 1955. After graduating he married Kathryn Splawn and began teaching and coaching basketball at Sedan High School south of Mountain View. They moved to Roosevelt in the fall of 1956 where he was elementary principal and coached Jr. High Basketball.
His son, Lynn was born while living at Roosevelt.
In 1960 the family moved to Apache where he was Elementary Principal. Their daughter, Deana, was born while living there.
In 1962 the family moved to Carnegie where Bill served as Jr. High Principal. In 1967 the family moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma where he taught in the Education Department at Southwestern College, returning to Carnegie in 1968. Bill Continued to teach at Southwestern for six years after which he worked at Burns Flat for SWODA. During that time he established a Skills Center at Altus. Four years later he returned to Carnegie as Elementary Principal. He retired from teaching in 1985 to devote his time to farming. He served on the Carnegie City Council from 1989 to 1997. He was Mayor of Carnegie from 1991-95. He then was elected to the Carnegie School Board where he served for ten years, was recognized for outstanding service to public education.
He continued to farm and raise cattle and show goats. He was well known for his help to young people in showing goats. He received the honor of being chosen Citizen of the Year by the Carnegie Chamber of Commerce in 2008. He served as a Director of Farmer's Co-op Board for nineteen years. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Carnegie and the Masonic Lodge. He was well known by many as always willing to help those in need.
He served nineteen years as a director on the Carnegie Farmer's Board of Directors, many years serving as President. During that time he was named Director of the Year of all Co-ops served by Triangle Insurance.
Bill is survived by Son, Lynn Tate of El Reno and wife Michelle, Daughter, Deana Sims & Husband Guy of Coalgate, Oklahoma. Grandchildren, Travis and wife Samantha Tate, Kristin Carder & husband Todd, Justin Tate and wife Katie, Megan Sims, and Drew Sims .One great Grandson, Logan Tate.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
