Betty Lou Porter

May 15, 1943 — September 21, 2019

Betty Lou Porter, 76, of Hobart, Oklahoma passed away on September 21, 2019 in Hobart, OK. She was born on May 15, 1943 to Herman & Viola (Bauer) Weigandt in Hobart, Oklahoma. She grew up and attended school in Gotebo, graduating from Gotebo High School in 1961. Betty always considered herself as a Gotebo girl, and then later as "Mrs. Porter" to her students and around town as "Beep". She met and then married Carroll Porter on March 20, 1965 in Hobart, Oklahoma and shared 54 wonderful years. Betty attended college at OSU, getting her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She spent most of her working life as a teacher, teaching Home Economics to high school students, and then later, loved working at Great Plains Youth and Family Services. Her students loved her humor in the classroom and her matter-of-fact teaching style. She was known for her chocolate chip cookies, her skillet enchiladas, and her famous rolls and pies at Thanksgiving. Betty loved all sports; she played basketball and softball for the Gotebo Hornets, she loved attending OSU football games, and she never missed watching her grandkids play sports. Beep's grandchildren were her life! She loved baking and hosting family dinners and holidays. Betty loved her three sisters and their "sister trips" along with their famous garage sales. Betty was a member of the First Christian Church. Beep will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her family and grandkids.
