Obituary Betty Jo Cunningham Crider
Betty Jo Cunningham Crider went home to be with her Savior June 1, 2019. She was born on January 26, 1931, in Pike, Texas to Reverend J.R. and Amal Brasher. She graduated from Gracemont High School in 1949. She married Dwane Cunningham in 1950 and they were married for 46 wonderful years. Betty worked for the Gracemont schools as an office assistant from 1966 to 2002 and enjoyed many fun- loving times with her coworkers Pat, Tommy, and Wayne as well as many others. She truly loved interacting with all the kids and people at the Gracemont schools.
She loved gardening, cooking, sewing, playing the piano, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her granddaughters truly loved hearing her play the piano and singing together. She made clown and sailor costumes for her sons and then made many costumes and clothes for her granddaughters which they wore with great pride. We have many great memories of all the wonderful times shared around the kitchen table. No one could make a better meal then our Mom and Grandma. Every meal included things from the garden and her grandchildren's favorites were the okra and corn. She loved having great conversations with her sons over a good cup of coffee.
She enjoyed following her sports teams, the Sooners, Thunder and Lobos. She kept her subscription to the Anadarko Daily News and looked forward to receiving her newspapers each day.
Betty was a faithful member the Assembly of God Church in Gracemont, Oklahoma for most of her life. Her church had a special place in her heart and she dearly loved her church family.
Betty married Reverend Tommy Crider on November 1, 2002 and moved to Estancia, New Mexico. They were married until his death in 2019. During these years, she met wonderful people through the churches they served.
In 2017 Betty was diagnosed with lymphoma. She began treatments at the Stephenson Cancer Center. Through her determination and courage, she was cancer free in May, 2017.
We are forever grateful to her loving sister Patsy, niece Kaye Keating, and stepdaughter Devonna Cummins who have been close by and provided love and support during this time. A special thanks to Evie and all the caring and compassionate staff at the Bee Hive Volcano Cliffs, staff of the Albuquerque Presbyterian Hospital and Armada Hospice Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Betty is survived by sons Ronald (Karen) Cunningham, of Norman, Oklahoma, and Keith (Janet) Cunningham, of Gretna, Nebraska, and step daughter, Devonna Cummins, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; six grandchildren, Rhonda (Brian) Jeffrey, Dana (Joe) Haddon, Lindsay (Brian) Cory, Sarah (Chris) Bogacz, Nicole Cunningham, and Connor Cummins; eight great grandchildren, Kale and Kallie Jeffrey, Harper and Branson Haddon, Brayden Garner and Brooklynn Bogacz, and Maddison and Garrett Cory; brother, Billy Ray Brasher, sister, Patsy Sue George, sister in law, Betty Brasher, and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, sister, Dorothy Jean Cazzell, and brother, James Darrell Brasher.
She will be dearly missed and in our hearts forever.
