Bessie Allene Penrod

Bessie Allene (Mitchell) Penrod, 103 passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2014, in Hobart, Oklahoma. She was born September 3, 1911, in Ector, Texas, the second daughter, fourth child of nine children, born to James Leonidus and Ethel Maude (Moye) Mitchell. Allene graduated high school in Cheyenne, Oklahoma in 1930, and attended business school in Amarillo, Texas, then began a career in banking. On February 14, 1932, she married Dale Willard Penrod in Cordell, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1982. Allene and Dale moved to Hobart in 1951, where Dale owned a gas station and Allene worked at the Home State Bank. In 1964, Sale and Allene moved to Madill where they owned a motel. Allene worked as a ward clerk in the Madill Hospital. In 1977, they retired and returned to Roosevelt where they lived the remainder of their lives. Allene was the ever-positive, jewel of the family. She always had a smile for everyone. We will miss her sweet spirit. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Roosevelt.


She is survived by her three children: James Dale and wife Peggy, New Braunfels, Texas, Luann Smith, Tomball, Texas, Beth Mahoney and husband Martin, Roosevelt, OK, Five grandsons: Pete Thibeault and wife Bev, Robert Thibeault and wife Ramona, Greg Penrod and Ellen, Jeff Mahoney and wife Shelli, Mitch Mahoney and wife Deniece, two granddaughters: Teran (Thibeault Martin and Krystal (Mahoney) Lancaster, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren
