Aunita "Nita" Mae Hamilton

April 9, 1937 — September 30, 2022

Aunita Mae Hamilton, 85, passed away September 30, 2022, in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She was born on April 9, 1937, in Gracemont to Garland and Frances (Frick) Bailey.
Aunita, known as Nita to most, grew up in the Caddo County area. She attended and graduated from Gracemont High School as valedictorian. Majoring in elementary education and home economics, Nita received her bachelor's degree at the Oklahoma College for Women, now the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha. Nita married Howard Hamilton the day she graduated from college on May 24, 1959 in Chickasha. She taught school for several years, both in Duncan and Anadarko Public Schools.
Nita was blessed with two sons, Matthew and Mark. She became a full-time homemaker after they were born. Nita poured her life into her sons, along with her husband Howard. She was an amazing and supportive mother who always stressed being the best Christian possible as well as the best student. Her priorities were clear: Christianity, service, and education.
Nita's crown was her four grandchildren, Luke, Jack, Anna and Rachel. She always asked about their grades, hoping they were making all A's. She loved to cook, especially homemade egg noodles, with her grandkids. Nita's passion was watching her grandkids play basketball, but her favorite competition was spelling bees. She would drive across the state to attend when they were participating.
Nita was known as quite the conversationalist and never met a stranger. She thoroughly enjoyed her involvement with women's service organizations whether in church or the community. Through these activities, she developed many close friends. Nita attended the First Christian Church in Anadarko.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Garland and Frances; husband, Howard Hamilton; sister, Ona Lou Bailey; and brother, Dale Bailey.
Aunita is survived by her sons: Matthew and wife, Joni Hamilton of Pauls Valley; Mark Hamilton of Anadarko; her grandchildren: Luke, Jack, Anna, and Rachel of Pauls Valley; and brothers: Bob Bailey of Gracemont; Paul & wife, Cheryl Bailey of Gracemont.
She was loved by family and friends.
