Audrey Marthena Strickland Tully, 94, of Carnegie, OK, was born in Beaver county Oklahoma on February 4 1921, to Carrie Myers VanCleave-Strickland and Harmon Riley Strickland. She was born six of eleven children and lived a true pioneer's life. She graduated from Alden High School in 1939. After finishing high school, she attended Cameron Junior College in Lawton, Oklahoma. Following this, Audrey and sister Clarene enlisted in the Marine Corps at the beginning of World War II. During this time she met and later married her first husband James Howard Chadwick. She was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1945, and began her family of six children: Daniel O'Blair, Marthena Elaine, Anita Faye, Darlene, Debra Lea, and Oweda Danielle. In 1962, the family returned to Audrey's hometown of Carnegie, Oklahoma where she met Robert Russel Tully. After being set up on a blind date by Mrs. Tully, they quickly fell in love and wed on August 9, 1966. They were married 36 years until he passed in 2002. Their marriage was filled with love and adventure. Together they traveled all fifty states and to many foreign countries. In addition to traveling the world, Audrey and Robert also enjoyed square dancing and spending time with their family. Although most of their winters were spent in south Texas, Carnegie was always home.
