Anita C Plummer

Anita Plummer went home to be with the Lord on March the 3rd, 2017 at 11:00 pm at the age of 86 in her home in Norman surrounded by her family. Her legacy began in Ft Cobb where she was born on May the 7th to Otis & Ruby Compton. Otis moved his young family to Apache where John Compton was born. A better job moved the family to Anadarko where Anita grew up and went to school. Her life changed in 9th grade at a Halloween dance. Her original date canceled, but she decided to attend anyway. Unbeknownst to her, Harold (Jerry) Plummer's date had done the same to him and with the same attitude he also attended. During the dance, Harold at 6'2" surveyed the assembled group to find the 6' Anita above the rest of the crowd. Harold waved and Anita responded; the rest is history. After graduating from Anadarko High School, Anita attended Oklahoma College for Woman in Chickasha while Harold attended Central State College in Edmond. Neither could wait for graduation and with the time being right the sweethearts married on March 1st of 1951.
Two weeks later, Anita graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. She joined Harold in Edmond where the two lived while he completed his degree. While Harold studied, Anita earned her medical technology credentials at Saint Anthony Hospital. After Harold graduated a year later, he was drafted into the Army for the end of the Korean War with Anita at his side. Following the war, Harold found work in Duncan where Cheryl Ann was born. The young family moved to Snyder, TX where Donald Edward was born. A decision to return to school for Harold and a job offer for Anita brought the family to the Oklahoma City area. Anita was hired at Central State Hospital and facilities, cementing the family ties to Norman.
As Harold began his sales career at Volker's, an unfortunate incident at Central State convinced Anita it was time for a change. An acquaintance introduced Anita to Ed Green who owned Green's Pharmacy and Professional Center Laboratory. As Jerri Jeanene was born, Anita joined the Professional Center Lab. Four years later the Plummer family was completed by the addition of Timothy Paul. While working at Professional Center Lab, Anita met Dr. Gerald McCullough and Dr. Hal Belknap who would change her career path. Drs. McCullough and Belknap decided to build their own building and needed someone to create and manage the laboratory and x-ray in the new facility. As the plans were drawn up for the new building, Anita joined the team. For the next 35 years, Anita managed and grew the Physicians and Surgeons Laboratory into Oklahoma's largest independent lab in the state. A chance introduction at a national laboratory convention changed Anita's path once more. A representative of Corning persuaded her and her associates to sell her beloved lab.
With her lab days behind her, Anita and Harold traveled extensively. They enjoyed their days of leisure and cherished their interactions with their family and friends. They maintained their walk in life and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as lifetime members of Bethel Baptist Church of Norman. Anita Plummer lived her life well and will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents and son Don Plummer. She is survived by her brother John & wife Joanna Compton; daughter Cheryl Plummer; son Tim Plummer; daughter Jerri & husband Jeff Davidson and their children Jeremy & wife Lindsey Davidson and Jennifer & husband James Ward; grandchildren Roy & wife Sara Plummer, David & wife Erin Plummer, Ryan Plummer, and Nate Plummer; and six great-grandchildren. Her husband Harold who will miss the love of his life the most.

Graveside services honoring Anita will be held at Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko, OK on March 9, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Under the direction of Ray& Martha's Funeral Home of Anadarko, Oklahoma.
