Alvin Wayne Unruh,97, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020 at the Carnegie Tri County Municipal Hospital in Carnegie, OK. Alvin was born in Carnegie on August 10, 1922 to John & Dena Nightengale Unruh.
Alvin grew up in a farming community south of Carnegie, Oklahoma and attended Alden Schools, graduating with the Class of 1942. Alvin worked hard on the farm with his 4 brothers and sister. Alvin always said it was a hard life but also had lots of enjoyable times, fishing, hunting and just being with his siblings. After his high school graduation Alvin was inducted into the Army Nov. 16, 1942. After basic training he was shipped overseas to what was considered The European, Middle-Eastern Theater (Germany). He was in the 27th Armored Infantry Battalion of the 9th Armored Division that began the End of the War. When the U.S. Army seized The Ramagen Bridge over the Rhine River that trapped thousands of German troops on the west side of the river which led to their surrender, Alvin drove the 1st mechanized vehicle, his medical jeep across the heavily damaged bridge to rescue troops on the eastern bank of the river. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal along with multiple other ribbons. He was honorably discharged December 31, 1945 at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas.
Alvin married Ruby Marie Dalke on February 3, 1946. Alvin spent his entire life in and around the Carnegie, Ft. Cobb area farming and doing lawn service.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, his older brothers Herman Unruh & LaVern Unruh, Two sons, Dennis LaRoy Unruh & Stanley Unruh, and One granddaughter, Kandice Ann Unruh.
Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Ruby, of the home in Ft. Cobb, OK
Two sons: Wilbur (Jack) & wife Glenda of Oklahoma City, OK
Ronald & wife Linda, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Eight Grandchildren
