Alverna Gann passed away on October 22, 2017 at Sparks, Nevada. She was born May 27, 1927 at Port, Oklahoma to Maggie Jane and George A. Wright. She attended schools in Hobart, Oklahoma and graduated from Gotebo High School in 1944 as Salutatorian of her class. Alverna attended Southwestern State University at Weatherford, Oklahoma, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Masters in Library Science.
Alverna married David J. Osmond on September 1, 1946. Two sons were born to this union. David passed away in 1988. Mrs. Gann taught school in Oklahoma and Washington before going to California in 1957. She was a librarian at all levels in the Antioch Schools and was also Supervisor of Libraries from 1961-1967. Mrs. Gann retired in 1987 after being in the California Schools for 30 years.
Mrs. Gann moved to Omak, Washington (for a second time) in September, 1990 and married Claud Gann in 1991.
Alverna was a life member of the California State Retired Teachers, California Association of School Librarians, Delta Kappa Gamma, and AARP. She was a former member of AAUW and the Soroptimist International of Antioch, California. She has been active in the Omak and Okanogan Seniors and a volunteer for the Lady Elks of Omak, and a member of the Okanogan Order of the Eagles, Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Gann loved to dance, travel, read, and meet people. She had a deep faith in God and was a member of the Faith Baptist Church of Okanogan. She loved to cook, especially to bake pies and make jellies. She loved her family and very much enjoyed her extended family (The Ganns).
She is survived by one son, Loel, of Reno, two granddaughters: Alison and Molly Osmond, of Reno, one brother Jake Wright, of Laverne, Oklahoma, one step-daughter, Susie (Tim)Omak, a step-son Alan (Barb), one step-granddaughter, Kiley of Spokane, a special niece Sharon Kimbrell, of Mountain View, Oklahoma, a special nephew, Kenneth Finley of Plano, Texas, three step-grandsons, Jake (Denise) Gann, Paul Gann, and Audie (Julie) Gann .
Mrs. Gann was preceded in death by her first husband, David, her second husband, Claud, a son, David Osmond, a stepson Philip (Millie), her parents, one brother, and three sisters.
Burial will be at Hobart Rose Cemetery in Hobart, Oklahoma on Friday, November 10, 2017 with a service prior at 1:00 p.m. at Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Hobart, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Hobart.
