Allen Diffendaffer

April 23, 1922 — August 16, 2016

Chauncey Allen Diffendaffer Jr. was born 2 ½ miles east of Rocky on April 23, 1922, to Chauncey Allen Diffendaffer Sr. and Lola Alice (Cunningham) Diffendaffer. Allen passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Cordell, Oklahoma at the age of 94.
His family moved several times to different places in the area for work. Mortgage companies would move them in to abandoned farms and have them make repairs and build new fences. His dad was known for being able to build straight fences, which helped him get the jobs.
He went to Lone Star School until the 8th grade, then on to Rocky, after that to A Port school for two years before moving back to graduate at Rocky High School in 1942.
Allen was drafted in to the military in November of 1942 and was placed in the Army Air Forces and sent to Kerns, Utah for Meat and Dairy Inspecting School. From there he was sent to Great Falls, Montana, and then to Presque Isle, Maine before being sent back to Great Falls. He then was shipped to Riverside, California to board the USS General McRae to Calcutta, India where he would spend the next 15 months helping with the transporting of supplies being flown over the Burma Hump to China. This operation was the first sustained, long range, 24 hour around the clock, all weather, military aerial supply line in history. It was a start-from-scratch operation. There was no precedent for it. He was honorably discharged at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas on April 21, 1946.
Allen returned home to farm and work as a custom wheat harvester making the harvest run for several years with first a pull-type combine and then a self-propelled one.
On December 31, 1947, Allen married Lola Frances Atkinson from Sentinel. They made their home 5 ½ miles northeast of Rocky until 1968, when they moved 3 miles northeast of Rocky for the remainder of their lives. They farmed and raised cattle, and Allen traded small tractors and equipment. He was always striving to conserve the soil by planting different grasses, shelter belts, and hundreds of trees in the area. One of his proudest accomplishments was winning the 1964 Grand Award Tour of Goodyear's 17th annual Soil Conservation Awards Program. These practices served more than one purpose as he was an avid quail hunter and loved being in the outdoors hunting and fishing. He loved trading tractors and parts and mostly just visiting with any who came to buy or sell.
Another thing he enjoyed was when his grandchildren began playing sports. He became a fixture in the stands with his video camera capturing thousands of feet of footage from his "reserved" spot in the bleachers. His footage has been replayed by many a fan, athlete and coach.
Allen and Lola were blessed with three sons, Edward (Eddie) Glen and wife Jeannette Kay Billman, Barry Neal and wife Rhonda Lee Giblet, and Stanley (Stan) Kevin and wife Elisabeth (Beth) Rose Giblet and six grandchildren , Chip Allen Diffendaffer and wife Megan, Waco Joe Diffendaffer, Abbie Wickersham and husband Jody, Rocky Diffendaffer and wife Leslee, Derek Diffendaffer and wife Lindsey, and Sammy Jo Diffendaffer, and nine great grandchildren, Marley, Azlyn, Jonas, Evie and Asher Wickersham and Finlee, Ezra, Thatcher and Millie Diffendaffer.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lola, one brother, Don Diffendaffer, two sisters, Margie Elston and Dorothy Humphrey and one grandson, Rusty Diffendaffer.
His survived by his sons and brother, Wade Diffendaffer of Lone Wolf, OK and numerous nieces and nephews.
