Adawnya Marie Geionety-Yellowhair was born on December 18, 1979, at Watonga Municipal Hospital. Adawnya is the eldest daughter of Ricky and Donna Geionety. Adawnya was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at birth and she fought this illness all of her life until March 23, 2015. Adawnya was surrounded by her family as she claimed victory. Adawnya was raised by her maternal grandparents, Vera Cozad Buffalomeat and the late Lavern Buffalomeat in Geary Oklahoma. She was given her Kiowa name by her maternal great grandmother Carrie Ahhaitty Stumblingbear. Her name was given to her at the age of 1 in a traditional Native American Church ceremony conducted by her great grandfather, the late Leonard Cozad Sr. at Hog Creek, OK. Her Kiowa name is Ai-Khee-gool-mah; meaning Red Flower, inherited through her great-grandmother Carrie Ahhaitty Stumblingbear. Adawnya attended school in Geary and graduated in 2000. Adawnya has participated in tribal activities since she was a small child. She served as the Carnegie Victory Club Jr. and Sr. Princess throughout the years of 1990-1995. Adawnya loved participating in hand games throughout Indian country. Her team was called Red Thunder. Adawnya was known for her hiding ability and beautiful singing voice.
