Don Clark was born in Mountain View, Oklahoma, on February 20, 1937, to Benjamin F. Clark and Ova Lee (Young) Clark. Don passed on Friday, October 28, 2022, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was 85 years old.
Don started first grade at Oney and then moved to Binger, Oklahoma, in the fifth grade. He graduated from Binger High School in 1956.
Don's first job was at the Binger Theatre, where he worked from age 11 until he graduated high school. He was also a Binger school bus driver during his junior and senior years in high school. After graduation, he was employed by C.R. Anthony Co. in Durant, Oklahoma.
Don then began his banking career at First State Bank, Anadarko, on January 14, 1957, as a bookkeeper. Don worked in all the bank departments and was later promoted to Vice President in 1968. He served in that position until he became President in 1981. His presidency continued until 2017. He was currently serving as CEO and Chairman of the Board. During Don's banking career, he completed many courses with the Bank Administration Institute and Conference of State Bank Supervisors. He served two terms as President of the Bank Administration Institute chapter in Lawton. He was also a charter member of the Southwest Oklahoma Chapter of the American Bank Institute. In 2007, Don was inducted into the Oklahoma Bankers Association fifty-year club. In 2019 through 2021, he was on the board of directors for the Oklahoma Bankers Association.
Don had overseen many renovations and expansions of the bank building, including the drive-in facilities, ATMs, and the acquisition of the bank in Gracemont. When Don started in 1957, the bank had assets near 2.5 million dollars. Today, First State Bank has assets of over 105 million dollars. During his sixty-five years at the bank, Don felt privileged to work with Neil Dikeman and Truman Melton. He truly enjoyed all the employees he was fortunate to work with over the years.
Don was an active member of the First Christian Church in Anadarko. He served in many capacities, including deacon, elder, chairman of the board, and trustee.
Don also served in many positions within the Anadarko community. He served as cub master and scout master of Boy Scout Troop 327. Don was a fifty-year member of the Anadarko Lions Club, where he served a term as President. He was a member of the Jaycees and an honorary member of the Anadarko FFA. Don also served on the Anadarko Chamber of Commerce board for over 30 years. In 1987, he was awarded Anadarko's Chamber of Commerce Man of the year. Since 1993, Don has served on the board of the Caddo county health department. He was also the chairman of the health department board for over 15 years.
Don and Kitty (Teague) Clark were married on March 6, 1959, in Gracemont, OK. Don and Kitty have one son, Gary Clark, and a daughter-in-law Kim (Guynn) Clark.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, sister; Marilyn (Clark) Taylor, and her husband, Edward Taylor.
